I got my coworker fired because she said "Hope this helps!" to me in a passive-aggressive email.

From the girl’s point of view, the situation must’ve felt something like: The client needs this to get to the next level, and nobody here is listening to me; I might just have to take matters into my own hands. On the one hand, it’s positive that she is so invested in the company’s success, but on the other, she should respect those in charge and try to communicate her ideas and suggestions the ‘bureaucratic’ way.

This attitude simply doesn’t work, not at a company, not in life in general; experience working with groups teaches you that. I remember back when I was studying, I always had problems getting my ideas across, and I ended up having fights or awkward moments with my teammates, until a teacher stopped me one day and told me I needed to learn to be a little more ‘seductive’. She used that specific word, but today I think she meant something more along the lines of ‘persuasive,’ although the two words mean similar things. Bottom line, it’s about a disposition to attract the other into your way of thinking, so much so that the other person makes it their own. This girl, apparently, didn’t arrive at that conclusion yet, and arguably, she might get there after this experience if she doesn’t get too defensive about it.

Judging by the end of the anecdote, her coworker doesn’t regret getting her fired at all, and is even a little proud and petty about it. She probably wasn’t a fit for the company; it’s true, you can’t be causing that type of trouble often, and one time is enough to judge her character in a corporate setting like that. Either way, I’m kinda on the girl's side, even though she is in the wrong, something in me wants her to learn from this experience and start using her talents for good. Hope she is O.K.
